Object description :

"Berber Jug, Ht 44 Cm, Hand-painted Terracotta, Haouz, Morocco, Early 20th Century"
Rare are these very beautiful ancient lands, female pottery from the Rif, Haouz, High Atlas (see the collections in Marrakech from Macma)
Our large model with a large handle, filling opening and jug is in very good condition.
Traditionally, manganese-based paint remains very present on the top of the belly.
These potteries exude a very great modernity, a great sense of proportion.
Still used in the fields or by shepherds, which is becoming rare, since replaced by plastic !
Dimensions: diameter 23 cm, height: 44 cm, weight: 3943 grs
The last photos show objects from our collections.
## This container of the jug family is typical of the Mediterranean regions and has the particularity of keeping water cool, modeled in a porous material, clay, the water moistens the outer surface passing through the pores of the unglazed clay.
To evaporate, it uses energy by evacuating its own heat, while cooling the inside of the jug.
The jug has been represented a lot in painting, by big names, Van Gogh, Matisse, Goya, Cézanne painted them in their works, and yet few of us have noticed them ...
