Jean SALA (1895-1976) is a Catalan, who arrived in Paris at the age of eight, was already swinging the iron canes and practiced blowing. He was doing his apprenticeship alongside his father, a glassmaker like all the Salas. Despite the School of Fine Arts and painting, which remains his relaxation, Jean Sala has remained faithful to the oven near which the processes of the old Venetian glassmakers were transmitted to him. He studies the work of the Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs. But copying is not enough, the artist draws the pieces, seeks their volume, elegance and color. Linking the fantasy of his discoveries to the burning sand of the crucible is one of his joys. He carefully chooses the metal oxides and places his touches in the fire... From 1933 to 1939, he created for the crystal works of Saint Louis a table service, vases, cups, candlesticks and animal subjects including his popular fish. He exhibited with his father until the 1920s. Then in national and international exhibitions.
