This beautiful piece originates from the region of Chahar Mahal (Shotour) in Iran formerly Persia.
It is a Bakthiar with a central medallion and two large pendentives, very different from the usual square or rectangle structures spread over the entire field.
The cut-out medallion presents a large flower and large stylized leaves, placed on a wine-colored, flowery field. The field is made up of large, stylized, colorful, knotted flowers with a very large application of symmetry.
To note The work of the border.
This type of Bakthiar rug remains a so-called nomadic rug style, the change in wool color as well as the asymmetrical shape, suggests that this rug remains a home production and not a workshop one.
This carpet, in fact, is particularly neat in its decoration and presents a certain transition between the nomadic carpet and the carpet of the cities. These rugs are very resistant, knotted with very good quality wool from the mountains, it will withstand the footsteps of a whole family for a long time. Despite their name and unlike different types of rugs, the Bakthiar are not knotted by members of the Bakthiar tribe, the Bakhtiaris, but by another population that is now sedentary.
The Chahar Mahal region produces the Bakthiar carpet but also the less known Yalame, more recent in manufacture but of very good reputation. Fringes short on one end and long on the other, edges in good condition, shiny and clean velvet.
This rug has been professionally and environmentally cleaned.
