Object description :

"Important Romanesque Baroque Showcase In Wood And Gilded With Pure Gold. Second Half Of The 17th Century"
Furniture of this type was commissioned to hold the most valuable and fragile objects in a collection. Examples of this kind were made in Rome between the second half of the 17th century and the first years of the 18th century, often retracing the ideas developed by architects and ornamentalists trained in the school of Bernini (similar pieces of furniture are preserved in the Sacchetti collection in Rome).
This box is moved on the 3 sides and is characterized by the elegant decorative elements with plant motifs of precious carving: Rich upper cover; the 2 rear pilasters are surmounted by pinnacles in the lower part while the 2 front ones are sculpted in a sort of floating volutes. To delimit the upper cornice there are 4 pinnacles in the shape of a torcieri. The game of carving on the frames of the upper windows, those on the sides and that of the central door is meticulous; The lower part is characterized by 1 drawer and 3 mirrors, also carved and gilded. The cabinet is in excellent condition, the glasses, even those of the top hat, are original.
