"Sistrum, Ethiopia XIXth Century"
Sistrum or tsenasil, religious instrument used in the Ethiopian Orthodox Church during liturgical songs and dances. This is made up of 2 metal rods which are drawn horizontally through a U-shaped frame. These two rods are equipped with threaded movable discs which collide when the instrument is shaken. This frame is nicely carved and openwork, it ends at the ends with 3 crosses recalling the religious aspect. It ends with a long handle. Ethiopia 19th century.
