"Lumbu Ancestor Statue - Gabon"
Beautiful and large statue of an ancestor for LUMBU ritual use from Gabon measuring 54cm high, it was made of soft wood and had been coated with reddish paint, black for the hat and white for the torso and forehead It represents a character female with apparent sexual attributes She holds in her hands the remains of bird feathers Mirrors are embedded in her eyes A similar work is reproduced in "Punu visions of Africa" by Mr Perrois and Mrs Charlotte Grand-Dufay Collection of the Smithsonian in Washington it is said in this work that among the Lumbu, all the statuettes are female, some are used for ancestor worship and others for healing or divination rites.
