This portrait is a must in the history of France. Baron Gérard represents the King of the French Louis-Philippe alongside his throne, laying his hand on the Charter of 1830. This large format kept at the Palace of Versailles has been copied in its entirety on numerous occasions so that these paintings can be used. offered or deposited in places of power in France.
Our canvas comprising only the bust of the king, was made after Gérard during the years of his reign, and has been transmitted within the same family since the end of the 19th century at least. After spending a long time in an attic, this room suffered many dents and accidents. It has therefore been restored recently, but the retouching and tears are visible. Original frame restored.
