Wall-mounted Green Duck From Lachenal

This flying duck from Lachenal is a rare model, partly because it is a wall piece and also because of its superb green colors. You can see some old restorations on the back on the upper part of the upper wing and on the neck of the duck (see photo).

Edmond Lachenal, pseudonym of Édouard Achille Lachenal, born in 1855 in Paris, was hired by the ceramist Théodore Deck, of whom he became the foreman. He received various distinctions and prizes at the Universal Exhibitions in Vienna in 1873 and Paris in 1889 with a service performed for Sarah Bernhardt, with whom he would later play in the theater. In 1881, he created his own workshop in Malakoff then moved to Châtillon-sous-Bagneux. In 1904, Edmond Lachenal abandoned ceramics and passed on his studio to his son Raoul. To turn to comedy as well as easel painting and pastel. In 1948, he died in Châtillon, where the Heritage House presents a collection of his works. Maurice Rheims pointed out that Lachenal had invented a matte enamel "with pastel, velvety and frosted tones" which enabled him to collaborate with other artists such as Hector Guimard and Auguste Rodin, finishing their works with its very specific glaze and finish. Rodin also bought some stoneware works from him in 1895.
