The known landscape of Argentat is that of beautiful overflowing half-timbered houses, leaning over the Dordogne or on its magnificent quays where the barges are aligned. Here, William Didier-Pouget presents us with another facet of this port city in the south of Corrèze. This house topped with a Mansard roof covered with country slates, must be located near the church, in the heart of the village. It has a sparkling garden of roses that the painter composed at least twice on cardboard boxes of similar sizes. The way in which the flowers are ordered are quite reminiscent of the gardens of the 1920s to the 1960s. Great rigor, very little grass and above all no weeds…

William Didier-Pouget, accustomed to the large misty valleys filled with heather de la Corrèze and de la Dordogne, also worked in a less commercial manner for the time, producing more personal works. Our oil is a testimony to this since it had remained in his workshop and joined the collections of his descendants. The work is currently unframed but may be based on your choices.
