Object description :

"Old Kashkai Rug, 131 X 198 Cm, Hand-knotted Wool, Persia (iran), Early 20th Century 1920-1930"
Carpet with various patterns accompanied by bright colors like the old Kashkai, from the beginning of the 20th century.
We find in our model baroque "Boteh" formed of floral elements, red, pink, blue, yellow, which cover the entire surface of the field with a blue background, which remains a rare decorative element for these carpets when the botehs cover the field completely.
## The "boteh" is a Zoroastrian sign of immortality, the most credible hypothesis of its form is the representation of the cypress maynu spentas, it is believed to be associated with the light of the God Ormuzd and the person of Zoroaster.
At his death he is carried to the top of a mountain where he is transformed. Another legend, it would be a cypress of paradise planted by Zoroaster and Kashmar (Turchiz) which would have become the highest in the world.
A symbol from the dawn of time.
The colors of vegetable and mineral origin, red or orange for the edges and a cobalt blue for the background are classic for these carpets.
The particularly neat weaving is carried out with very robust high quality wool.
The usual format preferably adopted is called "sedjadé" 130 x 190 cm on average.
Note the quality of the border decorated with ornate pink and blue carnations finishing this rug wonderfully.
The old Kashkai like our model, whose polychromy is warm and harmonious, are also often referred to as the "Shiraz of Mecca".
This denomination was intended to inform the buyer about the high quality of the carpet, worthy of serving as a gift for the Muslim pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca.
These very beautiful tribal carpets are knotted in the region of Shiraz, a region located near the ancient Persepolis which gave its name to Persia, nowadays, Iran.
Shiraz is in the province of Fars where the Gashghaï tribes reside and produce carpets under the two names, Shiraz or Ghashghaï.
We are, at the sight of all of these aforementioned elements, in front of a very beautiful carpet from an ethnic collection.
Knotted several decades ago with passion and devotion, it fulfills the criteria of the very beautiful Kachkaï.
Edges in very good condition as well as the two entrances to the rug tied in a kilim style.
Dimensions: width: 131 cm (52") x length: 198 cm (78")
This rug has been professionally and ecologically cleaned.
