"émile Colin & Cie, Based On The Model Created By Frédéric-eugène Piat (1827-1903)"
Inkwell "l'amour fraternel" by
Émile Colin & Cie, after the model created by
Frédéric-Eugène Piat (1827-1903), figures modelled by
Léopold Steiner (1853-1899). Difficult to find because of its unique nature, this inkwell is the result of a skilful search for detail and a marvellous finish. This object is characteristic of the historicism and stylistic electicism that dominated public taste and decorative arts of the period. This work belongs to the series of small objects that Eugène Piat composed for the Colin house. The collaboration between Piat and the Colin firm was particularly marked by the Universal Exhibition of 1889, and it is easy to imagine that it was during this artistically fertile period that the model of our inkwell was created.
