Louis XV period
In the taste of TILLIARD
The wood is in very good condition; the gilding, rare lacks.
The crushed velvet in used condition (especially on the seat)
This pair of armchairs, by their little used staple pattern, inevitably brings to mind the illustrious Carpenter Cabinetmaker, who treated it very well, who did not is other than Jean Baptiste TILLIARD 1.
Member of a large family of carpenters, he is one of the greatest of the Louis XV period.
Ordinary Carpenter of the Garde Meuble de la Couronne, he supplied Versailles, and in particular Madame de Pompadour.
His excellence recognized, he delivers for the Queen's apartment at Versailles, or even the Chamber or the Cabinet of King Louis XV. Closer to home, we find his works in the Niarchos collection, in the Louvre by a bequest from the Comte de Camondo, or even in the Victoria and Albert Museum.
