Oil on canvas - View of Paris - by Ernest Jules RENOUX (1863-1932) Signed lower right Please note that the painting and the frame are damaged in places (see photos) Visible at the Courcelles Antiquités Gallery, at 97 rue de Courcelles , in the 17th arrondissement of Paris. Born in 1963 and died in 1932, Jules Ernest Renoux is a French post-impressionist painter. Passionate about drawing since his early childhood, he went to study at the School of Fine Arts in Paris. Pupil of Jean-Léon Gérôme and Alfred Roll, he collaborated with Roll for the decoration of the ceilings of the town hall, the Sorbonne and the Petit Palais in Paris. Count Michel de Zogheb, a personality of the Belle Epoque, commissioned a portrait from him which was exhibited at the 1901 Salon. Z Later, the industrialist Auguste Magnère, an amateur artist whom he directed, became his patron. In 1916, Jules Ernest Renoux exhibited in Paris at the Bernhein gallery. The return is positive, he manages to sell twelve paintings. From 1922, Renoux exhibited at the Salon des artistes français, of which he became a member. Since 2007, ten of his paintings have been kept in Paris at the Petit Palais. Jules Ernest Renoux uses a palette based on yellow-orange and ocher with which he paints street scenes with an agile brushstroke. He enjoys painting human figures, often taking members of his family as models. But he's shy and he doesn't like to paint in the streets. He often chooses some dark corner to paint, which explains the unusual and interesting perspectives of some of these paintings. The Times of London writes: "He must be called an Impressionist, in the broad sense of the word, for he was concerned with the effect of the open air, taking malicious pleasure in rendering the patches of sunlight in shaded avenues. Precise in perspective, he used it with a keen eye and showed a special gift for placing his vigorously sketched figures at varying distances from the viewer. »
