*Joseph Marie Oberthur, known as Joseph Oberthur, born April 25, 1872 in Rennes, died October 5, 1956 in Cancale, was a French painter, animal designer and hunting writer.
He is the son of the printer Charles Oberthür.
The name and work of Doctor Joseph Oberthur remain well known to naturalists, even outside of France. If in the press, during his lifetime, he was nicknamed the "Buffon of the 20th century", because of his scientific knowledge of wildlife, the alert style of his books was praised as much as the charm of his drawings for their accuracy.
He ended his life in Cancale in the Broustière property which he inherited from his grandfather François-Charles Oberthür (Sources Wikipedia)
