In 1902-1903, the artist carried out a mission in Persia alongside the archaeologist Jacques de Morgan, he will bring back many small travel paintings including probably this one that he will dedicate in 1910 to this little cousin Antoinette. Jacques de Morgan was one of the first discoverers of ancient Persia. Bondoux will also use the studies carried out on the spot to carry out monumental works in order to decorate one of the rooms then assigned to the excavations of Susa , from the Department of Oriental Antiquities, at the Louvre Museum (decoration now deposited).
