Object description :

"Ewer And Basin, Sterling Silver, Circa 1830, Vermeil, Louis Manant Orfèvre"
Sumptuous set of an ewer and its vermeil basin from the Louis-Philippe period, dating between 1829 (beginning of the goldsmith's activity) and 1838 (end of the "old man" guarantee hallmark). It is the perfect example of an ewer and its basin at the time of the Restoration of the monarchy and then the July Monarchy (Louis-Philippe) Quite large in size, its sumptuous handle is decorated with acanthus foliage and its body is engraved with stylized plant motifs. The edges of the foot and the basin are lined with a frieze of water leaves. The vermeil that covers the entire surface of the set is in very good condition and shows no wear. It still has its lid topped with a fret in the shape of a winged sea horse. The set weighs 1870 grams.
It bears the garantee hallmark "au viellard" for 950 %silver in the period 1819-1838 and the silversmiths mark of Louis Manant 1795-1872, talented silversmith of whom the LouvreMuseum possesses several artefacts.
