Beautiful and rare panoramic view of the city of Caen from the Holy Sepulchre. In the foreground, the steps of the Sepulcher leading to the Vaugueux district and an exceptional view of the Caennais monuments, the Saint-Pierre church, Notre-Dame de la Gloriette, Notre-Dame de Froide Rue, the old Saint-Etienne, the Abbaye aux Hommes and the ramparts of the Château. Marius Borrel (1866-1937) was born in Paris and was a pupil of Jean Léon Gérome and Charles Courtry at the School of Fine Arts in Paris. Painter, engraver and watercolourist, he participated in the salons from 1883 to 1886, then was part of a team of artists accompanying Prince Albert 1 of Monaco during his scientific expeditions in 1888, 1893, 1895 and from 1901 to 1903 he also painted monuments such as the construction of the Sacré-Coeur in Montmartre or even views of the Seine Maritime in Fécamp or even Frobertville.
