Sketch executed in pencil by Theodor Pallady (1871-1956), in the context of his correspondence exchanged with Alexandra Fortel (nicknamed Sandra by her relatives), wife of Count Neville Lytton. Theodor Pallady is a Romanian painter. In his youth, Pallady lived in Dresden, where he studied technology. Later he moved to Paris, where he worked with Henri Matisse, Georges Rouault and Albert Marquet. In 1904, Pallady returned to Romania, where he organized an exhibition at the Romanian Athenaeum. However, he maintained close ties with Paris, where he continued to hold numerous solo exhibitions, until World War II. Pallady never lost touch with his friends, Romanian artists and intellectuals living in Paris, including Benjamin Fondane, Geroge Enescu, Constantin Brancusi, Camil Ressu, Eugène Ionesco, Emil Cioran and Paul Celan.
