"Crest Figure - Mali"
Figure of an antelope-horse, the Tyi Wara (or CIWARA) is worn as a crest, attached to a basketry headdress in order to increase the size of the wearer. In Mali, among the Bambaras, the Tri Wara is worn as recognition during harvest festivals, it promotes fertility. The object in front of us has all the classic characteristics of this type of production. The horns are united at their peaks. The face of the animal is scarified, it continues in a hollow neck taking the form of a scale decorated with a kind of notched line on the side. It rests on a kind of stool whose feet marked by a slight bulge can evoke the animal's legs. Are present the fixing holes of the Tyiwara to the headdress. Black patina of very homogeneous use.
