"Bamana Female Statuette - Mali"
We know the traditional representations of Bamana maternity, used in rituals of protection, however rare are the representations of pregnant women. This one in eroded wood is exceptional for its state of conservation. Remarkable for her protruding belly, her tearful breasts and the hands stretched towards the sky which seem to ask for protection.
