"Bambara Maternity Figure Sculpture - Mali"
Carved in hardwood, where a woman seated on a stool breastfeeds a child. Its body is marked with lines that echo the triangles that make up the structure of the seat. We will notice here, it is the hairstyle that escapes the vernacular criteria. It could be a piece made for a foreign woman, be a portrait in some way, but this remains a plausible hypothesis and gives this object its high quality. A split in the wood at the level of the baby's body in no way interferes with the plastic quality of the object.
