"Royal Baoulé Statue Of Ivory Coast"
Very rare Baoulé statue of an ancestor covered with gold leaf (some lacks) height 34.5 cm Large slender female body in wood, hands folded on the chest The head turned in a haughty posture and a typical headdress of hair gathered in several balls Well-defined ears eyes half-closed and mouth with protruding lips Among the Baoulé, only two forms of art are associated with the ancestors: stools and gold objects They are preserved in the sacred heritage of the family. Statuettes covered with gold are very rare. We often find scepters or fly hunters This statuette would require a restoration at the level of the gold leaf plating (I dare not touch it to leave it authentically original) Provenance; collection of Doctor Michel GOSSE in Paris
