"Old Isfahan Rug In The Form Of A Prayer, 137 X 207 Cm, Hand-knotted Wool Persia (iran) Late 19th Century"
Persian carpet Ispahan or Isfahan, in the shape of a prayer, in very fine hand-knotted wool measuring 137 cm wide by 207 cm long.
Magnificent decor for this type of Persian considered to be the finest carpets found in Iran previously called Persia.
## Museum quality carpet from the second half of the 19th century, knotted under the Kadjar dynasty.
The decoration of this room takes up traditional floral motifs that appear in 17th century carpets and in mosques, on old ceramics.
Note the presence of a mihrab with floral and animal decoration that is often found on very old Isfahan rugs from the 16th and 17th centuries.
It is easy to recognize in the interlacing of the roses present on the field and on the borders, often knotted on these exceptional carpets.
The border, decorated with birds posed in branches and its counter-borders strewn with carnations are very sophisticated, so much the arrangement of the interlacings and the flowers is of great finesse as well as the associated nuances.
The design of the central mihrab specific to the prayer rug or in the form of a prayer, and the motifs of the two spandrels at the top forming the dome, testify to great research.
From the base of the niche adorned with two cranes fixing two deer, springs up in the center a flowering tree of life, where many birds frolic.
A large bouquet of roses and trees nestle in the background where deer and birds give the rug a vision of earthly paradise, rendered, desired by the knotter.
The colors are pleasant and remain fresh, burgundy, Prussian blue, steel blue, ocher, clay red, olive green, pale blue and cream are shades that one encounters in the repertoire of these carpets and of this period and these lively tones express the joy of living.
We have great difficulty in imagining the infinite patience that was needed and still is needed today, for the creation of such a beautiful piece.
Density of about 640,000 knots per M2 for a thickness of about five millimeters.
The edges are in good condition, our piece remains in used condition, collection. This type of carpet proves to us the precise and acute artistic sense of the craftsmen of Ispahan.
The quality of the wools used is a major asset, as well as the use of silk, allows a beautiful shine and enhances the tones.
The use and the solidity of the vegetable colors allowed the conservation of this type of carpet.
The remarkable fineness of the fabric due to a low shave and a very fine cotton warp and weft allows a fineness of carpet combining great robustness. Isfahan, is the great art city of Iran, even today.
Under the reign of Shah Abbas, the fame of this city in the artistic sector was of the greatest importance.
This city has produced some very great artists, and some of the finest rugs in the world.
This rug has been professionally and environmentally cleaned.
