"Walloon "au Loup De Passau" -mod-1772-cavalerie & Gendarmerie-louis XVI-xviii°"
Walloon with the "LOUP DE PASSAU COURANT", model 1772, for the cavalry or the gendarmerie, LOUIS XVI period, XVIII°. Periform pommel. 2 branches of main guards with superimposed balls connected and by two secondary oblique branches. 2 pierced guard bridges including one of the heart type with a thumb. (see photos). Inflected quillon terminated by a cone. Filigree spindle of steel wire in inverted chevrons with 2 solid rings. Flat oval type blade with 2 cutting edges with median gutters on its base bearing engraving on both sides of the blade in the baton letter "IN MINI" and the LOUP DE PASSAU COURANT. Furnisher hallmark on the heel. These strong iron-mounted swords were the first French regulatory model at the request of LOUIS XV and under the direction of the Marquis de LOUVOIS.
