Hector Horeau
Brillant architecte, Hector Horeau (1801 – 1872) se voit confier parmi ses premières missions la charge d’illustrer le récit du deuxième voyage en Nubie de Cailliaud, « Le voyage à Meroé ». Il effectuera par la suite son propre voyage en Egypte en 1837 : après avoir contemplé et décrit le Caire, les Pyramides et le Sphinx, il loue un bateau et se met en route pour Thèbes. Il remonte alors le Nil, s’arrêtant sur les principaux sites archéologiques, parmi lesquels les tombeaux de Beni Hassan, Asyut, Dendora, ainsi que Louxor, Karnac, Philae, etc. A son retour en France, Horeau retravaille ses dessins en recourant à la technique du daguerréotype telle qu’employée par Pierre-Gustave de Lotbinière.
