Fernand Allard l'Olivier (1883-1933)
Biography:
Florent-Joseph-Fernand Allard, known as Fernand Allard l'Olivier (or L'Olivier), Belgian painter and illustrator, Fernand Allard l'Olivier was born in an artists family from Tournai.
His father and his three uncles Adolphe, Auguste and Charles Vasseur were all designers and owned a lithography workshop. His father was also a watercolor teacher at the Academy of Fine Arts in Tournai.
In 1901, he arrived in Paris, enrolled at the Académie Julian where he attended a series of workshops.
His first works are very dark. He signs his works with his full name Allard L'Olivier
He will later discover Africa and will become a very recognized Africanist painter.
