Psyche Commode In Walnut, Maison Guinand-leglas, Rocaille Style - 1900

Beautiful chest of drawers in walnut veneer and solid walnut, surmounted by an important Psyche, made by the Nantes Maison Guinand-Leglas, recognized for its excellence. This piece of furniture, combining the refinement of a dressing table and the storage capacity of an elegant Rocaille style chest of drawers, is made up of a belt of a drawer, then three identical drawers. Each facade has a walnut veneer arranged in four sheets, embellished in relief by small moldings connected by carved wooden elements. On each drawer, we find an entry in original bronze accompanied by a lock and a key in working order. On each side of this chest of drawers, an upright finely carved with scrolls and foliage, in the upper and lower part, ends in a humped foot with an acanthus leaf. Joining the front legs, a low cut-out crosspiece is adorned with a sculpted shell and volutes. The sides of this piece of furniture are made of four-leaf veneer. On the top, a red and white Morello cherry marble, with groove and beak of corbin, is embedded in a molded perimeter. The psyché part, taking up the ornaments of the chest of drawers, is composed of a large mirror with curved lines and two small drawers with wooden knobs. On the sides, consoles, moldings and the frame of the mirror are in solid walnut and are accompanied by an important sculpture on the pediment. The bevelled mercury mirror is original and in perfect condition. The inclination of this one is regulated by bronze tightenings in the shape of pine cones.
