According to legend, Saint Eustace was martyred in 118 AD, by order of the Roman Emperor Hadrian. He was a pagan general, converted to Christianity, after having had a vision of the Cross, while hunting the deer; He heard a divine voice prophesying his misfortune.

Illustrious Draftsman, Engraver and Painter of the German Renaissance, he most often signs with his monogram.
He travels a lot, especially in Italy, where he is inspired by new pictorial currents: He is illustrated in his famous series of the Apocalypse, or even in Venice with The Virgin of the Rosary.
In 1512, he became Court Painter to Maximilian I of Habsburg.
In 1526 he painted the Four Apostles.
At his peak, he distinguished himself by his rigorous drawings, so faithful to the reality of nature and landscapes.
