Surgeon's Box By Charriere.

SURGEON BOX by CHARRIERE.
Rectangular in wood veneer, retractable copper handle on the lid. Interior sheathed in red skin - on 2 levels 1 inside the lid.
Set of 14 accessories and instruments + set of hands - signed - in shiny polished steel, stems and handles cut facet diamond.
1 slot remains empty.
Signed at the same time, on the inside of the lock, and oval label with the words: "Charrière 9, rue de l'École de Médecine Paris. Fabt. d'Instruments de Chirurgie de la Faculté des Hôpitaux".
The lock is existing but out of order. No key.

Manufactured between 1833-1842.

Joseph Frédéric CHARRIERE (1803-1876)
Started in Paris in 1816 as an apprentice cutler. In 1821 he took over at 34/35 Cour St Jean de Latran. He specializes in surgical instruments. Surgeons like Civiale, Ségalas or Dupuytren offered him their patronage and ideas for the creation of numerous instruments.
In 1833 he transferred his establishment to n°9 (7bis) rue de l'École de Médecine.
In 1842 we find it at n°6, opposite in the same street. He received numerous awards with honours; unanimously recognized for the excellence of its production.
In 1852 his son succeeded him.
