Period uniform bindings of full porphyry glazed calfskin, gilt fleuron garland framing the covers, smooth spines richly decorated with a gilt framing fillet, gilt framing boxes, gilt serrated boxes, gilt wheels, large gilt fleurons, sowing gilt dotted lines, ebony morocco label pieces, tawny morocco label piece, gilt title, gilt label number, gilt palette at the top and tail, set of small oblique gilt fillets on the cuts, marbled edges. Set - under contemporary decorative bindings - complete with the two volumes constituting Les Annales de l'Empire; offered here in the famous edition of the Complete Works of Voltaire established by the care and at the expense of Beaumarchais, known as the Kehl edition. ''This famous edition was the most complete, the most beautiful and the best ordered that had appeared until then of the Works of Voltaire. It is under the typographical point of view that Beaumarchais deserves praise''. (in Brunet). ''The work results from the philosophical debates held in Cirey relating to reasoning reason, to the assertions of Locke and Leibnitz, to the historical existence of humanity.
