"Provençal Panetière In Solid Walnut - 18th Century"
This panetière, entirely in solid walnut, has a moving front. With a very wide low crosspiece in the center, its cut is refined at the ends to profile itself at the bottom of the feet. This one is dug with stopped gorges, sculpted with volutes and patterns. The top rail is in the spirit of the bottom one. However, it is surmounted by small ornaments, called plumes. In the central part, we find a small applied door, with hollowed movements and scrolls. Two hearts with an arrow are carved into it. It opens using a large cylindrical plug with iron lace. The perforated iron entrance and the key, with lock and spring-loaded striker, are original. The door is surrounded by turned spindles that we also find on both sides of the cabinet. At the ends of the facade, slightly wider turned columns, tapered, are extended by Louis XV scrolled snail legs. The back and bottom are wooden shelves. Typical of the ceremonial furniture of Provence, this panetière with ornamental sculpture was dedicated to the conservation of bread. It testifies to the quality know-how of the artisans of the Arles region.
