A Rare miniature altarpiece depicting the Resurrection of Christ and God the Father.
German, third quarter of the 17th century.
Measures 58 x 36 x 11cm.
The small altarpiece was either made for private devotion or as a maquette (artist’s model), to be presented to a patron as a proposal for the creation of a monumental work. The altarpiece comprises of two oil paintings on panel of the Resurrection of Christ beneath a tondo of God the Father, with the Holy Spirit in the heavens. The paintings are framed by bold columns within a baroque faced extensively marbled in the trompe-l'œil manner.
Although cleaned, the small altarpiece remains in outstandingly original condition with very little restoration to the marbling.
