A relief made using the Shibayama technique. It is a sculptural art in which the artist combines different materials. Precious materials are used as inlays or applications on the carved surface of the lacquered wood. In this case, the sconces are made of mother-of-pearl and two types of bone: buffalo and ivory. It represents two women (geisha?) in traditional costumes. One of them holds in her hands a parchment with an image of Mount Fuji. Japan, Meiji era (1868-1912), signed. The Shibayama technique was initiated between 1772 and 1781 by Onoki Senzo, whose hometown of Shibayama became the name of the technique invented by the Japanese artist.
