Old painting fixed under glass. Subject representing Saint Bruno the Carthusian (1030-1101). Catholic saint founder of the Carthusian order. His worship in the universal Church was authorized on July 19, 1514 when Pope Leo X granted his beatification orally, while Pope Gregory XV introduced the feast of Saint Bruno to the Roman Missal on February 17, 1623. The saint is in prayer before a human skull (allegory of death). An hourglass evokes the passage of time and the futility of life. The skull is placed on the bible to express the fact that the life after death is more important than the secular life. The work is presented in its original frame in wood and gilded stucco in the Louis XVI style. Pediment decorated with quivers, frieze of pearls around the perimeter of the frame. The frame measures 39cm x 30cm The painting measures 27cm x 22cm. Work dating from the end of the 18th century. In good condition.
