"Large Louis XV Tabernacle In Gilded Wood - 18th Century - France"
Important tabernacle from the Louis XV period in carved and gilded wood. The opening is decorated on each side with palmettes and surmounted by a pair of cherubs. The 3 sides of the tabernacle are decorated with friezes of plants, scrolls and rest on a gadrooned base. The sides are adorned with panels decorated with censer, monstrance and candlestick for one and a candlestick, processional cross and censer for the other. The tabernacle door is missing. French work from the 18th century, bears a handwritten inscription on the top of the tabernacle with the signature: "the Vergnols, gilders and sculptors".
Condition report : good general condition, lack of gilding on the base, traces of flying insects on the back and it is reported that the top panel is badly pitted and partly worm-eaten.
