Signed "BONHEUR" on the base
Old cast bronze

This very rare model represents a well-known breed of Scottish bulls. Perhaps Isidore Bonheur was inspired by the drawings brought back by his sister, Rosa, after her trip to Scotland. He may also have observed this species at a fair or market. A bronze from the collection of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mellon, representing the same subject, is kept at the National Gallery of Art in Washington (inv. no. 2006.128.3).
