He was 17 when he moved to Paris after his admission to the École des Beaux-Arts in 1862. He entered the studio of François Jouffroy, Grand Prix de Rome, renowned academic sculptor and statuary. Talented, with an overflowing imagination and a tireless worker, Adrien-Etienne Gaudez exhibited works that were very successful, thanks to their classicism, and received a lot of commissions. In an academic style imbued with grace, he sculpts with precision and chisels with finesse.
