This charming sketch illustrates an episode from Sophie Cottin's troubadour novel "Mathilde or Memoirs from the History of the Crusades" published in 1805 which had great success. The novel describes the story of an impetuous passion and modest love between Mathilde, Richard Coeur-de-Lion's sister and Malek Adhel, Saladin's brother.
