Bronze Christ, hollow cast, France, end of 16th century
This type of Christ has been produced in the East of France from late 16th to early 17th century. This depiction is marked by Italian Renaissance influences: Christ shows an imposing and muscular torso that contrasts with rather thin bent legs, with superimposed feet. Naked head lays down towards right on torso, and arms are slightly raised with hands whose half of the fingers are folded. Short perizonium is depicted as a cloth simply placed on the top of tighs.
If hands are pierced, it's an integrated little rod on the back of feet that makes an attachment device.
Excellent condition, brown patina.
