Dignitary stool, Bamileke, Cameroon. Heavy wood with inlaid old patina, 30X27cm seat Height 39 cm. traces of xylophagous insects inside Presumed period: 19th century. This stool is a prestigious object that was reserved for dignitaries. Its decoration takes up the recurring theme of the divinatory spider, whose stylized and repetitive motif is sculpted in the mass all around between the seat and the base. The motif was drawn with the artistic sense and the asserted talent of a sculptor to be able to be chained harmoniously. Provenance: Private collection
