"Elegant At The Seaside By Hermann-paul"
René Georges Hermann-Paul, known as Hermann-Paul, was born in Paris in 1864. He was a student of the Ecole des Arts Decoratifs, the Julien workshop and Gustave Colin, and a member of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts. He exhibited at the Independent Art Exhibition in 1926 and in London in 1927. He illustrated many books, including Dante's Inferno, Gargantua, and Octave Mirbeau's Calvary. He was also a satirical illustrator for many newspapers and periodicals such as Gil Blas, Figaro, Assiette au Beurre and Cri de Paris.
He had his moment of fame at the time of the Dreyfus Affair, facing Forain and Caran d'Ache, alongside Ibels and Steinlen.
He died in Saintes-Marie-de-la-Mer in 1940, after having contributed to the cultural life of the region.
