19th century French school : “La Bonne Soeur 2”, miniature painted on oval porcelain 9 X 7.3 cm, mounted in a bronze and gilt brass frame with a knot 13.8 X 10 cm. A monogram and a date 1869 on the back. See also its counterpart. Decidedly, I can't help myself: as soon as I find representations of the clergy, I buy them and I have had them almost all of them, from the simple priest to the cardinal, including monks, bishops and other nuns. I even saw a pope once, but he was too ugly and I didn't take him! No, it's not a thwarted vocation, as gossips will not fail to insinuate! It's just that their uniform makes them very graphic and that often makes for beautiful pictures. Here, their uniform reminds me of the Sisters of Saint-Vincent de Paul, with their large cornetto and their large rosary.
