Philippe-Jacques de LOUTHERBOURG (Strasbourg 1740 - Chiswick 1812) Landscape with a shepherd playing a torch and a church on a height. According to Mr. Olivier Lefeuvre this painting must date from the years 1768-1769. Oil on canvas 51 x 40.5 cm Provenance: Collection of Edouard, Duke of Treviso (1883-1946) By descent, private collection. Loutherbourg reproduces here a church similar to that present in a drawing by the artist dated 1768 preserved in Marseilles at the Grobet Labadié museum (Landscape of the South of France with a church in height, reproduced in the work PJ De Loutherbourg by Olivier Lefeuvre, editions Arthéna p.30 fig.9) There is a second version of our painting kept at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris (inv.21169), reproduced in the book PJ De Loutherbourg by Olivier Lefeuvre, editions Arthéna p.209, cat . 66.
