Louis Cabié, renowned artist in France and particularly in the Bordeaux region, even during his lifetime, circulated in the great southwest throughout his life. Pupil of Harpignies whose passion for vegetation is found in the style of the Barbizon school, he will transcribe until his death the simplicity of the picturesque French landscapes. Spectacular trees, forest atmospheres, places steeped in history, bewitching valleys, or even a landscape in its simplest form that it will know how to raise with a vital contrast.

From 1899 Cabié made stays in the Allier at Hérisson, very close to the home of his friend and master Harpignies. It represents the golden hills, the ruins of the fortress and of course the Aumance, this small river crossing the village. Our canvas dated 1917 is of a pure square format. It represents a place known in the region, the riprap on the Aumance called the Saut du Loup, upstream from the village. The sunny cliff, the foreground in the shadows and the lively watercourse have very often made collectors believe that these works were to be located in Périgord... The handwritten note near his signature is proof that the Allier has played an important part in the work of Cabié, from which pieces of very good quality come.

We are looking for any work or any information relating to the artist to complete his biography as well as a catalog raisonné in progress.
