"Rob Beat : "the Gate Of The Church""
Robert Béat (1903-1990): “The gate of the church”, oil on canvas 61 X 50 cm, mounted in a beautiful contemporary frame 79 X 68 cm. Circa 1930, cleaned and mounted on a new frame with tension bands. Rob, as he signed, came from a dynasty of artists, but his activity as a decorative painter and illustrator left him little time for easel painting, which he practiced mainly during his many travels, particularly in Brittany and the Basque Country. The plunging perspective on this side of the church, probably from a rood screen or a gallery, with this gate open but nevertheless flanked by a stoup is very modern, further enhanced by bold colours.
