Object description :

"Neo Renaissance Hermann Ratzersdorfer Earrings"
Old earrings.
Sumptuous old earrings representing the pelican feeding his children with his heart. Having nothing to satiate its young, the bird sacrifices its life by offering its entrails to its chicks.
This theme was masterfully used by Alfred de Musset : "In vain he searched the depths of the seas; The ocean was empty and the beach deserted; For all food he brings his heart"
The pelican is also a symbol of the love of Christ .
These Renaissance style earrings were made by Hermann Ratzersdorfer, active in Vienna between 1843 and 1881.
Work of very good quality embellished with turquoises and natural stones (probably garnets) on spangles.

• Pair of gilded silver earrings (swan hallmarks)
• Length of the pendants: approximately 6 cm
• Weight of the jewel: approximately 20.91 grams
• Period: Vienna, 19th century.
• Please note: Significant gaps in the enamel and traces of verdigris.
