"Amazing Wax-headed Figure Wearing Grand Siècle Stage Costume"
This curious subject with a wax head and a body made of armed cloth and wood, has finely carved and painted features, a slender body with large hands made of painted woods (one broken finger on the right hand and some lacks on 2 fingers). It is wearing a fabulous stage costume of the kind worn by male dancers or opera singers during the reign of Louis XIV.is this a profane character for a very small crib? Would it be rather the portrait of an artist of the time or a nobleman who performed at a costumed ball?
We do not know. Under its wooden base, calligraphic and stamped numbers would suggest the inventory number of a museum collection.
This very old character is preserved in an enviable state, given the fragility of the silk textiles and gold trimmed of this period.
