"Empire Period Secretary & Commode En Suite, Mahogany, Mercury Gilt Bronze, Turquin Blue Marble"
Rare suite of a chest of drawers and its secretary. Model with columns in blond red mahogany veneer from Saint Domingue, very beautiful trim of chiseled bronzes and gilded with mercury of Thomire quality. The two pieces of furniture are topped with a luxury Turquin Blue marble. Our two pieces of furniture are also characterized by their size and their modest dimensions: they are a chest of drawers and a not too large secretary (slightly smaller than the standard models, which makes them easy to place in an apartment in town). Quality Parisian production from the 1810s in the style of Jacob Desmalter: the absence of a stamp unfortunately does not allow its author to be identified with certainty. The dresser opens with 4 large drawers. The secretary discovers a theater with multiple small drawers, it has kept its original gilded leather with small irons. As a wardrobe, it opens with 2 doors below which reveals an English drawer. Our two pieces of furniture are also characterized by their modest dimensions: they are a chest of drawers and a not too large secretary (slightly smaller than the standard models, which makes them easy to place in a city apartment) Beautiful amateur model; our furniture is really the beautiful model of its kind with all the luxurious finishes that collectors are looking for and which differentiate it from a common model: very beautiful trim of chiseled and gilded mercury bronzes in matte and shiny (interesting to note a similar trim on a console that we sold in 2021: https://www.gslr-antiques.com/fr/boutique/meubles/console-empire-acajou-blond-marbre-griotte.php), use of luxury mahogany (beautiful blond red model), and turquin blue marble one of the most chic that differs from the common quality in gray granite or the classic Saint Anne Gray or White. Furthermore, bedroom furniture that has remained intact, without separating the chest of drawers from the secretary, remains very rare. Very good condition, the mahogany is varnished with a buffer, it has been cleaned and repolished by our cabinetmaker. The bronzes are finely chiseled and gilded with mercury. A few old veneer covers on the chest of drawers, and small covers on the original leather of the secretary.
