"Curved Empire Console For Living Room In Rotunda Or Circular Tower"
Beautiful curved console in mahogany veneer and mahogany-tinted fruitwood, fine trim of chiseled and gilded bronzes decorated with laurel wreaths and faced winged muses surrounding a lyre. Pilaster uprights of square section adorned with moldings, it is topped with a gray granite marble. Empire period From a stylistic point of view, our console is typical of the pure Empire style which developed from 1805. If the Consulate-Directory style is still borrowed from a lightness of the 18th century with the persistence of timid curves and zoomorphic elements, the pure Empire style is "straight". An evocation of antiquity with an archaeological vocation in an architectural dimension all in straight lines and abandoning the "chimeras" (sphinxes, animals in the round, human figures on lion's hocks, etc.) which characterized the consulate style. Our console is an extra-ordinary proposition due to its curved shape. It was made to be placed in a living room in a rotunda or a room fitted out in a castle tower like in Valencay or Digoine, so as to hug the curves of a wall that is not straight. The curvature is small, the console is intended for a large circular room. Beautiful collector's item, rare proposition. Length 121cm Depth 41cm Height 90cm
