Their company, "Votre Maison", has marked the history of French design.
Guillerme and Chambron met for the first time in 1940 in a stalag in East Prussia.
As prisoners, they became friends, but the first post-war years separated them. Robert Guillerme graduated from the Ecole Boule in 1934 and put his talent at the service of the Rogier workshops, a large firm in the Lille region.
Jacques Chambron, a graduate of the Reims School of Applied Arts, had his own painter-decorator workshop in Paris.
In 1948, Chambron and his family left the capital to settle in Lille.
The two men, who had met there, crossed paths with Emile Darioseq, owner of a cabinet-making workshop looking for new outlets, and "Votre Maison" was born a year later, in 1949.
Guillerme designed the furniture, Chambron acted as a salesman, welcoming and advising customers, and the Darioseq workshops took care of the manufacturing.
Together, they defined a new concept of furniture. Buffets, tables and chairs are cheap, robust and authentic. Worked backs, waxed wood and thick cushions make the reputation of their armchairs and sofas.
With the help of the ceramist Boleslaw Danikowski, they mixed wood and earthenware tiles: a real success.
In the 1970s, Hervé Chambron, Jacques' son, also a graduate of the Ecole Boule, joined "Votre Maison" and produced his own designs when his elders retired in 1983. The company was liquidated in the 2000s.
